Inspired by... symbols of freedom

Between Memorial Day and the 4th of July there is a lot of red, white and blue going on!  The sacrifices made by men and women to ensure our freedom and the birth of the United States of America is certainly worth remembering and celebrating.

The American Flag is a powerful and inspiring symbol!  Countless men have given their lives to defend the basic principles this symbol represents.  Have you attended an event recently where you recited the pledge of allegiance or heard the Star Spangled Banner?  Did it move you?  It does me.  Every time. I can't help but think about all that this symbol represents.  It's inspiring.

Even at rest, this bird takes your breath away.  It's powerful, majestic, fierce, protective.  If you've ever seen this bird in real life, you understand why it's another inspiring symbol of our Nation.

There's lots of catchy phrases out there about our country and the men that have died to keep her free.

Let's hope these quotes never become so common place that we forget the meaning behind the words. If you think you'd like to use these in your celebration next week, click HERE to download the free printables.  You could use them between pennants to make a patriotic garland or glue them to popsicle sticks and add them to your table d├ęcor. There are lots of possibilities!

I've been busy on Pinterest today searching for July 4th party ideas.  I'll be sharing those with you tomorrow, along with what's on my menu for next Wednesday. I'd love to hear what y'all are planning for the 4th!

Have a wonder-filled day!

Inspired by... beautiful quotes

Have you ever read something, a thought, or some other inspiring words, that just clicked?  Like your deepest feeling, finally put to words?

That happened for me last week while reading Kim's blog.

"I really just want to be a warm yellow light that pours over everyone I love." ~Conor Oberst

I love those words. They resonate deep within me. They inspire me.

As part of "It's my birthday – but the gifts are for you" series, I decided to share those words and some of my other favorites in the form of a set of brushes for you.

I'm calling it my Inspired Birthday Brush set.  Just click on the image above to download. In case you missed it in my earlier post, here is just one example of how you use brushes:

I hope you have fun with them. And if you use them, please come back and leave me a comment with your link so I can check out your work!

Have a wonder-filled day,

Inspired by... images of summer

I've been thinking about what "speaks" summer to me...

I'd been sighing over all the gorgeous "peony posts" I've been seeing out there in blogland... wishing I had my very own... well, look what appeared in the local flower shop?

Heavenly scented peonies for my very own desk top! Textured with Kim's peony texture, of course!  Do you like the brush I used? Check back on Thursday for a surprise!

Hmmm' what do we have here?

Of course, summer means lizards! Aslan and Tracker were intensely focused on their prey playmate. Disclaimer: no actual lizards were dismembered or killed during this episode

I may not have fresh peonies blooming in my front yard, but I am blessed with an abundance of another one of my favorite summer blooms.

The crepe myrtle are stunning this year! {yes, I say that every year!}

Another key summer "speak" is produce!  Texas peaches are in abundance right now!

Peachy Goodness Peach Cobbler

Source: allrecipes.com

  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
  • 1 (16 ounce) can sliced peaches or 2 cups fresh peaches, sliced
  • 1  cups sugar, divided
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup (or to taste) brown sugar
  1. Pour butter into a shallow 2-qt. baking dish; set aside. Drain peaches, reserving 1/4 cup juice. In a saucepan, bring the peaches and juice just to a boil. Meanwhile, in a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup sugar, flour, milk, baking powder and salt; mix well. Pour over butter in baking dish. Spoon hot peaches over batter. Sprinkle with brown sugar. Bake at 400 degrees F for 25 minutes or until cake tests done. Serve warm.

Scoop up some peachy goodness! Yum!

So. . . how does summer speak to you?

Have a wonder-filled day,

Inspired by... dad

Happy Father's Day, everyone!

I hope you have a father who inspires you. Even if that inspiration is simply to have more patience {smile}

"Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord."

This is me and my dad, forty years ago

Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you"

The only commandment from the Lord that He follows with a promise. We might want to pay attention to that. I've found that whenever I obey this commandment, I am blessed.

This is my favorite picture of my dad

I wouldn't necessarily call my dad a funny guy, but . . .

These do tell a story. . .

I am blessed to still have my dad living, and even more blessed to have him living with me, in my home.  It's not without its challenges, but honoring him in this way honors God and brings many blessings for us both.

"The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him."

Have a wonder-filled day,
