Inspired by... a child

Who is the Christ of Christmas?

Butterfly_After "So He came and proclaimed the good news: peace to you who were far off (non-Jews),

and peace to those who were near (Jews); for through Him we both alike have

access to the Father in one Spirit." (Eph 2:17-18)

I shared a few weeks ago about the myriad of prophesies concerning the Messiah and the likelihood of one man fulfilling even 8 of the over 400 prophesies. Today I'd like to share with you seven specific prophecies, fulfilled, that our Pastor shared with us this week.

Who the Christ must be...

1. Born in Bethlehem – prophesied in Micah 5:2 (500bc)

2. A Nazarene – prophesied in Isaiah 9:1 (700bc)

3. Worshipped by Kings – prophesied in Psalms 72:10 (900bc) and Isaiah 60:3, 6 (700bc)

4. A prophet like Moses -  prophesied in Deut 18:15 (1500bc)

5. His birth would trigger a massacre – prophesied in Jeremiah 31;15 (625bc)

6. His mission would include the Gentiles – prophesied in Isaiah 42:6, 49:6 (700bc)

7. Born of a virgin – prophesied in Genesis 3:15 and Isaiah 7:14 (700bc)

I'm particularly thankful for #6. The passage above from Ephesians and preceding passages in that book talk about how, as Gentiles (non-Jews), ours was a world without hope and without God. Jesus' birth changed all that. He is the Light piercing the darkness of our world.

That alone is a reason to celebrate.

A reason to HOPE.

PS Wondering why the butterfly? "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." (2Cor5:17) The butterfly's metamorphosis from worm to the beautiful creature you see above is a pretty spot on analogy.
